There was one thing that I was thinking about, and it is that food consumption is more likely to follow a normal distribution, a bell curve, than a power law distribution, an L curve, so even if we can't be one-hundred percent sure that the outliers are definitely not moving the average, or skewing the results or whatever, in a normal distribution, outliers don't really move the average.
