I don't know if it makes more sense to post
these random and spontaneous thoughts of
might as part of my Clothes series here on
my blog, or if it makes more sense to submit
them to poetry journals, the only journal that
I am sending them to being the Paris Review.
There is something fun about sending a mailed
poetry submission. Writing the address down and
stamping an envelope and going to the post
office and buying stamps and all that. One thing
that annoys me about so many poetry journals is
that they ask for a reading fee.
In order for you to give them content, you have
to pay them. What kind of bizarre set up is that?
These poetry journals that charge the producers
of the content cannot sustain themselves in the
long term. They need advertisers like everyone
else. So many of them are not hosting ads on
their websites, and I am guessing that they do
not have them on their paper journal either.
