Fragonard # 19 by Helen Della Rosa

A tree scarred by an aborigine,
sacred runes and pathways to the divine,
marching from tree to tree like infantry,
checking every tree for some kind of sign.

What's there to look for in these dendroglyphs?
These signs that ancient people made on trees,
reminiscent of Egypt's hieroglyphs,
carved with steel with a god in mind to please.

The bark was used to make canoes and bags,
not a single piece of tree went to waste,
today the way we care for a tree lags,
the grains of desert sands is what we'll taste.

Leave half, do not take everything you can,
leave enough around for your fellow man.
